Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo Sunday has always been my family day. I try my very best to avoid working on Sunday because I have realized how important it is to spend time with your beloved ones. Some people may think going to dining, shopping or just sitting there watching TV with family are a waste of time when there are tonnes of work waiting to be finished for that week. But when I get older, I have come to understand how important “family day” is. If you have strong ties with your family, you are not afraid of anything, you always have a place to fall back onto. This Sunday, I went to tea lunch with family and went to the movie Finding Nemo with them. I enjoyed it very much but I want to watch it once more - in English. Ocean is such a beautiful place and that dentist clinic really frightens a lot of kids!

First day of work

Just for fun Having finished the PCLL course at HKU, I decided not to do anything more in that field, it had been 6 years there and I desperately need some new challenges - in the field that I really love. I came across an advertisement on JobAsia by chance and suddenly this idea popped up on my mind: Why not give it a try? This was so far the only application letter I ever sent out. The interviews went through smoothly, so here I am, working at ICON as Solution Executive for the first day. Just too many people around asked me the same question: why? I would refer them to the book I bought two years ago: Just For Fun: The Story Of An Accidental Revolutionary. Linus Torvalds is just one of the hundreds of successful stories telling you the same theory - you may not become as successful as they are when you do something for fun, but you certainly will be miserable if you don’t enjoy your work.

Drawing again

Painter 8 Finally I pick up drawing again! But not using charcoal and papers, I use my newly-bought Wacom Tablet with my PowerBook. After trying out the Painter 8 Trial Version for only 30 mins, I decided to buy the full version. I bought it today for HK$850 (academic price), I am so thrilled now! This program is fantastic! If you like drawing (whether beginner or advanced), you would just love it! What’s more, it comes with both the Windows and Mac version inside the package. The first thing I do must be creating different “signature” files for embedding into my emails, documents and greeting cards. I hope I could showcase some of my Painter drawings on this website soon!

Tax Rebate spendings

Computer Arts Magazine I don’t know how other people do with the tax rebate (mind you, only partial, the most you can get is HK$3K no matter how much tax you paid last year). But I listened to the Government (rarely), I spent it right away. I guess this is good to the economy and I feel happy too. I bought the latest issue of Computer Arts Magazine, which is too expensive to buy every issue. I also bought my long-awaited gadget - Wacom Intuos2 Drawing Tablet, extremely expensive, it cost 77% of my tax rebate! I always love drawing and it is time to pick that up again. I think I have pretty much done my part to assist the Hong Kong economy, how about you? :-)

Yellow Oil Crabs, full day of luxuries

Yellow Oil CrabsThis maybe the last official ’summer holiday’ for me before I start working after graduation, so I have no hesitation to go wild. I shopped around the factory outlets in Kwun tong and the whole of Mongkok in the afternoon, got myself two pairs of sport shoes, caps, socks and birthday gift for my best friend Bernice. Further, I went to eat “yellow oil crabs” with friends in Lei Yuen Mun at night, the crabs and other seafood were SO delicious, I just can’t put that into words! It was such a great day!

Belleliu.com migrated

Linux Server Hacks I couldn’t believe that it took 4 days to complete the DNS change! Finally belleliu.com is migrated to the new server, now situated at Mega iAdvantage (10 mins’ walk from my home). With new hardware, a much faster bandwidth and a fresh install of Linux by myself, have you noticed a considerable increase in speed when viewing this website? Being a server administrator is really a big headache, yet challenging at the same time. I do enjoy learning server stuffs, that’s why I bought many books on that. A recent item was Linux Server Hacks, which cost less than HK$200 but let you save time worth more than HK$10,000!

Moving moving…

There are so many things to move recently. First, my websites, to be moved from an old server to the server at iAdvantage. I got my own full rack at a world-class data centre, isn’t that thrilling? Besides, I have to move away from my current flat very soon, as the one-year tenancy is due soon and I would be able to save so much money then. Hopefully I could accumulate a considerable amount of savings because of this, and invest the money in a wiser way when the chance comes.

I miss you dear!

Happy Birthday to Bernice

Hong Kong People’s Pride

“>Funny Mp3 Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa was forced to shelve the second reading of the National Security (Legislative Provisions) Bill early today after Liberal Party chief James Tien suddenly resigned from the Executive Council and his party withdrew support for the legislation. Tien told reporters he had asked to see mainland officials to reflect the demands of the 500,000 people who took to the streets on July 1, calling for the shelving of the bill. This is truly good news and a great victory for Hong Kong People, I felt much relieved and very proud for being part of the July 1st March. I believe that July 1 had changed the political landscape in Hong Kong and we are capable of making the history.

Big family feast

Soya Sauce Chicken My dinner appointment with primary schoolmate has been re-scheduled, so I joined my uncle’s family for dinner and enjoyed a big feast. I could not eat a lot because I had a cheese cake in the late afternoon. My grandma cooked 9 dishes, among them was my favourite “soya sauce chicken”. I posed a happy face with a chicken leg in this photo. It has been a very hot week but I love it! It is always better than raining! I am really longing for tomorrow’s league practice with my teammates (as well as the dinner afterwards), LOL!
