BlackBerry 7230

The past week was awful, I’m glad that it is over! I’d like to get myself a new gadget to celebrate, LOL! Here it is – BlackBerry 7230 from Three HK. In short, it is a handheld specially designed for wireless email access. OK, I remember I probably had once said that I wouldn’t use any more handheld devices like Palm or PocketPC, so here are the excuses: first, this BlackBerry is the only viable and affordable option for wireless email access currently in the market. I don’t mind carrying around a Palm/PocketPC with me every day (which I did before), but it is such a hassle to hook it up online to just read a few emails. I have to either find a Wi-Fi spot or use a GPRS connection.

In terms of coverage, Wi-Fi is out of the question, and standalone GPRS data transfer plans are insanely expensive. Second, I like the idea of BlackBerry’s “Push” technology. I want my emails find me instead of me go check for emails. I hate to go back to the old days when I had to dial and connect/disconnect. For both business (financial) and personal (addiction) needs, it is agonizing for me to be without email access for half day or more. And this happens whenever I am in meetings out of office or travelling around, things could sometimes go crazy if it happens at the same time that I cannot be reached or speak on the mobile phone.

So here I am, playing with my latest gadget, which cost HK$3,500 and hopefully would prove its worth very soon. Unfortunately it won’t be ‘activated’ until tomorrow morning, pending some account activation procedures, and then I need to logon to their web client to set up my various email accounts, it supports up to 10 accounts but I think I’d just check my main business one for the time being. My personal email account (@belleliu.com) is always full of junk.

Now I am exploring this product to see whether I should buy it. The features claimed sound very attractive to me, but there is quite a number of bad comments I found on google, so I’d love to hear any comment from you.
