Off-Season Tennis Disorder

Just read an article about Off-Season Tennis Disorder on tennis.com, very humorous. I feel so lucky that I live in Hong Kong, therefore not subject to those long, cold winters which would prevent almost all outdoor activities. Winter season is my favourite, for there are much fewer rainy days (yes, I have Rainy-Season Tennis Disorder only), and comparatively easier to live with than HK’s killing hot summer, at least for me. Tonight I’ll be playing the last match of the Winter League this season, the standings are pretty much confirmed, we’re not going up or down (as usual) in the table. When the result doesn’t matter, I don’t have to worry much and will try to play more shots that I am weak at, also try to run and sweat as much as possible to offset the fat I gained from feasts!

Tennis portal hacked

All of you probably know that I don’t go to bed early. Well, I did that tonight, I was feeling quite tired (or just nothing on the screen interested me). I went to bed around 12, impressed? No, unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to have a good sleep. Got a call telling me that my hobby site HKTennis.com was hacked!

Suddenly I had to jump out of my bed and started working again. Damn it! I have to blame the software the site runs on - the once beloved but notorious PHPNuke. More than four years ago, I was amazed by its ease of use and capabilities, just like M$, when something gets really popular it will become a target of attack.

The site was filled with hacker messages and the latest articles were all gone. I had to dig into the database to manually remove all those embarrassing data. Now I have to make a decision: should I still keep the site? If yes, I must do something about it. Since the site has been heavily modified, a straight upgrade to the latest 7.0 seems impossible, and that may not solve the problems too. So I am contemplating moving it to another portal system, like XOOPS. In view of the large amount of data, I’m going to have a rough weekend…

Review of BlackBerry 7230

BlackBerry 7230As promised earlier, I would write a review on this new gadget, now I am doing it. After one month’s use, this gadget has become indispensable to my every day life. After only a few day’s use, I bought the sync software, I think US$29.95 is a fair price for something that has virtually no competitor in the market and actually works. I just received the first bill from Three HK today, go to the details now …

Au revoir my friend

Birthday PresentI have just returned from the airport, my best friend just left HK and on her way back to San Francisco. Try to guess how many luggages she’s got, no, you can’t imagine it, I can’t imagine it either, I guess they were over 70kgs total. Anyway, she got through without any penalty charges. Checked in smoothly, then sit down for a quick ramen dinner, and I was presented with a beautiful Folli Follie necklace. Wow! The first birthday present I received this year! Thank you so much dear! This is absolutely lovely, I like it very much! So you must wonder why she got me an apple necklace? Yes, for my love of Mac computers.

In early January 2005, I will be seeing her again at her wedding, can’t wait!

Visit to Outward Bound HK Base

Outward Bound HK

Today I took the pleasure to visit Outward Bound Hong Kong’s base at Tai Mong Tsai, Sai Kung. It’s such a beautiful place, with stunning seashore and great facilities and people. I am now tempted to join their Philippines Voyage

Tai Wing Wa

Dinner at Tai Wing WahTonight I went to the famous Tai Wing Wa restaurant in Yuen Long for dinner. We tried a few of the popular dishes and had the chance to chat with the owner and chef To To. He was very nice, we chat a while and took pictures together. I quite like the plain rice (with oil & soya sauce), the “five flavours” chicken and the vegetable soup. But I think I need to go there again with more people next time, there were only four of us tonight, if we come in 10 or more, there will be so many more things to try. I was holding the “Ma Lai Go” (a traditional steamed pudding made with eggs and flour) in this photo.

CRC Open 2004

Golden Dragon EggsJust returned from the CRC Open 2004, watching my friends (Ricky, Vivian, Amy) played tonight. Congratulations to all of them for their wins! We went to a nearby small Thai restaurant for late dinner, the best dish was probably this one: the Golden Dragon Eggs, made with prawn meat and preserved eggs. Look good and taste good.

I haven’t played in any local open tournament for many years, now I am seriously considering about playing again, I want to take full advantage of my flexible work schedule and continue to improve my game. Before that, I should visit the gym more often and get some proper training. Since I am getting so old now, I feel like I have nothing to lose! :-)

Hakka salty chicken

Hakka salty chicken
I was about to go straight home after losing 2-6, 0-6, 0-6 in the frustrating league match tonight, but then my best friend told me she hadn’t eaten dinner yet, so we met up in Causeway Bay and went to the famous Hakka restaurant Chuen Cheung Kui for the salty chicken. Yummy!

Happy Birthday to Sister!

Peggy's Birthday Nov 6 is my sister Peggy’s birthday, I just returned from her birthday party at a karaoke. My energy level is quite good today, despite a luxury lunch at Trio’s, some shopping around, my regular tennis practice and the karaoke, I am feeling fresh and light.

I took a lot of pics at the party, some of them were hilarious, hopefully I could post them up tomorrow. It’s time to get some sleep now, there will be two league matches next week - one on Monday and one on Wednesday. The latter one is crucial. Now I have had a tough time deciding which day I should go work out , I desperately need more fitness training (to make the money worth!), but have to be careful at not wearing out before the games.

Bernice and I have made quite an effort to try to get something for my sister as birthday present, it’s not that easy to find something suitable. I told my sister jokingly that I have placed $500 Parknshop cash coupon on her desk today.

Quota exceeded for November

Hainan Chicken RiceMy best friend told me my quota has exceeded for November when we had the probably best Hainan Chicken Rice in town. This is the second consecutive day I had this rice. Like yesterday, I finished all chicken, rice and soup in the whole set, feeling very satisfied. She said I should not eat anymore of this in this month. The oily rice is too fat (but yummy!) :-)

The restaurant is very famous for this rice and a few other things, I forgot its name but it’s easy to locate. Just opposite Shun Tak Towers in Connaught Road Central, next to a MTR exit of Sheung Wan station. I should have discovered this place a year ago when I first moved to Sheung Wan. But it’s not too late, I am sure I’d go there very often later, ok, not again in November.

Update: The name of the restaurant is Golden Leaf 金葉, hope you could find it!
