Back online , still alive

In reply to many of your queries - yes, I am still alive, and finally back online updating my blog. To make a long story short, I wasn’t able to get online after I left L.A., and only had very little time to do my work when I had such a chance when I returned to S.F., the misery continued when I came back HK - the connection was terminated at home due to billing issues and only resumed today. During this period, I could be found on IM occasionally during office hours but most of the time I was either away in meetings or working like hell to catch up with the work I should have finished long time ago. I would like to apologize to all of you for not emailing/chatting with you, stay tuned and you’ll see the rest of my trip entries coming up real soon.

Kitty’s Wedding

Kitty's Wedding Congratulations to Kitty! She’s my classmate in secondary school and just got married today! Kitty is a very nice, smart and charming lady, it goes without saying that her husband Chung feels very lucky and happy. Sorry guys, another A+ lady taken! We’re all very happy for her, with two tables filled with SSC classmates, I am sure were were those who made the most noise and laughters! Check out the pics!

Day 10 - Las Vegas

Last day in Las Vegas, we had a Japanese lunch and I reluctantly went to further outlet shopping, but didn’t buy anything because that outlet was much worse than the one we went before.

Since I got some urgent work to do and couldn’t do it without Internet access in Las Vegas, I took a plane back to Oakland tonight after having a steak feast. Upon returning to Oakland, I worked non-stop for a whole day, and the others arrived by car in the evening the next day. This marks the end of my USA trip, I took the morning flight the next day to return to HK, the flight from SF to Japan was terrible, couldn’t sleep at all because of those Flippino talking non-stop for 12 hours. Feeling severly jet-lagged and tired and had to start working the next day.

Day 9 - Las Vegas

Somehow I couldn’t sleep much and got up very early today around 6 am. Unfortunately there was no Internet access in this hotel and I had to “kill time” by wandering around in the hotel. I checked out the tourist information and found out that it would take 4.5 hours to drive to The Grand Canyon, it is a 9-hour trip in total! So we decided not going there, after every body woke up (finally!), we had a quick lunch and drove to the Hoover Dam, spent a while there and returned to Las Vegas. We also went to the M&M store, the Coca-Cola store and walked around the strip before going to the Spice Market Buffet dinner at Aladdin. That was such a long queue to wait! After the buffet, we watched the show Jubilee. Of course we did gamble a little too, I won US$14 with a US$20 budget. Check out the pics.

Day 8 - Outlet Shopping

Right, here comes the highlight of the trip - shopping in outlet. We were shopping like crazy that I don’t even know where we were. It took us a few hours to drive to the outlet from LA, and somehow every one just didn’t shop enough. We had to leave prematurely to pick up Bill and Bao at the Las Vegas airport in the evening. So we had to leave around 6 pm. For me, I got a very nice dress from BCBG, some really cheap stuffs from Armani, and many many things from NIKE, of course.

After another 6 hours of driving, we arrived in Las Vegas! We checked out the hotel and went out for “late snack” at a restaurant in an underground mall which opens until 3 am. The steak and clam chowder were fantastic! Check out the pics.

Day 7 - Universal Studio

We went to Universal Studio for almost whole day, luckily the traffic was smooth and we got there pretty early. First we had a quick lunch at Tony Roma’s, then began shooting photos and playing the rides, etc. It was a much smaller place than I had thought, and the rides were not scary at all. The most fun part was talking to Donkey and taking photos with Shrek. The 4D Shrek movie was good, the pop corn tasted great, the Mummy Ride was too short, but overall we enjoyed the day. Oh yes, we got special discounted tickets too, only US$30 (original US$50).

In the evening we met up with my old SSC schoolmate and tennis friend Silver and Pinkey at their L.A. home. Their baby boy was just born 18 days ago. They are doing great here and I feel very happy for them. Check out the photos.

Day 6 - Los Angeles

Posing with Princess Fiona from ShrekSo we’re now in L.A., after a whole night of rest, we finally went out in the afternoon. The traffic here is absolutely terrible. We wasted so many hours in the traffic jam and every body was very exhausted too. I was better because I did’t have to drive. We went to Hollywood and took some standard pictures at the most popular tourist spots like the Kodak Theatre, Chinese Theatre, etc. It was almost evening when we got to Santa Monica, but that wouldn’t stop anyone from shopping like hell. I wasn’t too interested in those shops so I was day-dreaming most of the time. There wasn’t much to see in Santa Monica probably because we arrived too late. So late that we missed the meetup with my old friend Silver Ng, who married Pinkey (classmate of my sister) and now resides in L.A., for the “late dinner”. We will meet them tomorrow night, as well as my primary schoolmate David Mann who also happened to be Bernice’s schoolmate at UC Irvine. What a small world. I love this picture with Princess Fiona!

Day 5 - Macworld SF 2005

iPod ShuffleSo you now all know what new stuffs were announced at the Macworld SF. All I could say is - I was there. Unfortunately and very disappointingly, I wasn’t able to witness it in the main hall where Steve Jobs delivered the keynote. Probably I didn’t go there early enough (arrived one hour before it started), so I was allocated a seat in another hall where the keynote was broadcasted live on a large TV. Clearly I was very upset. Since I paid US$295 for the cheapest pass to go to the keynote, then ended up viewing it on TV and getting no freebies - no gadgets, no software ….

Day 4 - Sight-seeing in SF

Peggy in Cable CarThe two-day wedding is over now, so I began my first day of sight-seeing in San Francisco. First I met up my friend Jeff, who wrote the amazing program Deja Vu, in Moscone Center, to purchase the pass for tomorrow’s Macworld. It’s very exciting, we then had a lunch and he toured us around the city.

First, we paid a visit to the Apple Store in Stockton Street, I was so happy to visit one, it was my first time! I made a small purchase, getting the SimCity game for my brother, it is out of stock in HK.

Then, we took the famous cable car and visited the Fisherman’s Wharf / Pier 39, tried some really fresh crabs . Of course we can’t miss the Golden Gate Bridge, so we took a one-hour boat trip from the Wharf to see the Bridge and the Alcatraz. Finally we climbed all the way up to the hill to see the Coit Tower. The view was very nice and I liked the exercise. Thanks Jeff!
