Knocked out
I’ve been dreaming about this since 13: to have my parents, coach and friends to come watch me play in a tennis match.
This dream finally realized on November 6, 2005, and I won that match, barely. The score was 9-7, I was 1-4 down and only started to hit the ball comfortably after then. I could have played better and won 8-4, anyway I was very happy I pulled it off without good preparation for the match. I just did what I had to do to win, albeit that I executed the right strategies a little late. My parents seemed to have enjoyed watching my boring long rallies for 2 hours, maybe I should make them come more often, I wish they will not try to compare my games with those they see on TV!
Then I played my third-round match on Wednesday night, I lost that one 1-8, unfortunately. The opponent played better, and my fitness level was terribly low that night. I played a 3.5 hours league match on Monday night right after my 9-7 win, and didn’t have good sleep on Tuesday. My legs were not moving even during the warm up. But I tried my best to stay in the match for as long as I could, and I think I did make my opponent earn every point. It lasted for more than 70 mins, I felt I could have got at least 3 more games if I had my fitness level on Sunday night.
So it’s the end of my CRC Open adventure this year. The winter league season is coming to an end soon too, we’re playing our last match against Recreio next Monday. If it goes well, we’ll be the first runner-up in the Ladies’ A+ Division! For the morning league, we still have two matches to go with a 15-point lead in the table. Hopefully I would have a taste of winning if no accident happens in the next two weeks.
