Obituary: Henry Leung

Update on April 6: The funeral will be held at Universal Funeral Parlour 萬國殯儀館 at 10 Cheong Hang Road, Hung Hom, Kowloon, on April 13.

With great sadness, I just learned from the newspaper that my fellow SSC and HKU Law alumni Henry Leung died in the morning of March 24, at age 32. He was hit by a truck while driving a motorcyle along Gloucester Road in Wanchai on October 30, 2005.

Henry was four years older than me, I remember he was a very active student in St. Stephen’s. He was a smart, cheerful, athletic guy and a great student leader liked by fellow students and teachers. I did not know him personally until 1998, he somehow got my address through the alumni association and wrote me a long, touching email to introduce himself. We met up soon afterwards and got to learn from each other so many things in common. We were very happy to find out that we went to the same secondary school (even in the same “House”) and the same course in HKU. In fact he was the only SSC graduate went to HKU LLB before I did in recent decades.

He shared with me many things in SSC and HKU at our meetups, and offered me so much advice and help. His road to success was never smooth, I am very proud of his contribution to the profession as a solicitor and to the society as a District Councillor. So happened that I also lived in the district he served during 2002-03. Unfortunately we have not been in touch for a few years already and it is too late now. 師兄, 願您安息!

Rise early

Every one around me knows I live an unhealthy, rock-star lifestyle. I go to bed late and get up late almost every day, actually I am not happy with this and tried to change this without success for all these years. That’s frustrating because I know I wasn’t born to be a late riser, and I know there are so many benefits to rise early! When I was in F.3~F.4, I used to get up at 5:30 am to catch the first mini-bus for Stanley to play an hour of tennis before school almost every day. The feeling was great, I still remember. The bad habit didn’t kick in until my second year in university, when I moved to a student residence hall and started to stay up late like most others.

A few months ago I almost succeeded as I forced myself to open the office door every morning, unfortunately that didn’t last long and I gave that up again. While I did my random surfing today, I found this article - How to Become An Early Riser. My hope is now revived, wish me luck!

Being rich

Quoted from 李純恩 on Apple Daily:

品 味 和 品 格 , 都 是 靈 性 , 與 錢 財 無 關 。 錢 財 可 以 買 天 買 地 買 人 , 很 不 幸 , 就 是 買 不 到 品 味 和 品 格 , 這 也 是 很 多 有 錢 人 可 憐 的 地 方 , 他 們 表 面 上 擁 有 了 全 世 界 , 但 心 裡 是 空 的

What’s wrong with our society? What’s wrong with our education? Is money everything? Does money = success?

If there is one thing that makes me leave Hong Kong, that would not be pollution.

Back from Beijing

The trip has been fairly smooth and enjoyable, before I got time to blog in details, take a look at a few photos first.

Off for Beijing

Tomorrow morning I’ll be off for a short trip in Beijing, it’s like a mid-term break for me. On one hand, I enjoy being away for a few days; but on the other, I know there’re more tough things waiting for me when I return. Just like when we were given an mid-term exam right after the X’mas holiday in school, you really couldn’t enjoy it completely!

Nothing has been planned for these three days except the MacMeet, so I’m glad to find out that a client is also staying in the same hotel, hopefully we could catch up for a lunch or tea before she leaves on Saturday. There are lots of places to go to in Beijing, even though I never enjoy going to clubs and discos I might give it a try this time. Not sure if dancing like crazy would make me feel better!

Tomorrow is also my mom’s birthday, happy birthday mom!
