Palm Island Resort

Le SpaIt wasn’t easy to disconnect myself from Internet access, in fact I couldn’t remember when was the last time I didn’t check email for two consecutive days! I think my body, my PowerBook and my Blackberry phone all deserve this short weekend break at Palm Island Resort. Bernice and I went to this nice resort in Huizhou, China, to recharge ourselves with a spa treat and brief golf adventure.

Golf for Dummies - Me!

Last night I finally took the courage to video-capture my own swing! Having taken just three private lessons (one shared hour with my sister each time), I feel that I shouldn’t expect too much from myself. Golf is a new sport to me. While tennis shall remain my favourite sport for many years to come, my interest in golf is gradually generating. Being a complete beginner, I enjoy the fact that it’s easier to see the results and there isn’t any old/bad habit to be changed.

Now, see me in action in the rest of the photos, which I captured using my handy Canon digital camera. Yeah, I know I got so much to work on, especially my take-off … if you’re willing to offer me free lessons at Island Golf Club, do let me know! Maybe we can have a barter exchange, any one wants web design lesson? :-)

Nike+iPod Sport Kit

I want to have one of these, seriously.

Nike+iPod Sport Kit

Even if you’re not interested, check out their website. It’s one of the best Flash sites I’ve seen lately. Exactly what I expect from my two most favourite brands.

Come on, bring them to Hong Kong now!

Upgrade or Switch?

iPod\'s new packaging by MicrosoftAs you see my blog is still running WordPress 1.5.11, I don’t know if it is because of the old version or WordPress itself, the entries have been getting dozens of spam comments and trackbacks every day since last month. It’s getting so bad that I have to turn off commenting! Now there are two choices before me: either upgrade it to the latest WordPress 2.0.2 or switch to another blogging tool (possibly Textpattern).

I guess I need more time to think about it, there’re just too many things I want to do (typical Sagittarius!) and I know once I have decided to do something I wouldn’t be able to stop until it’s done. God knows how long the switch and tweaking will take me …

Meanwhile, just came across this amazingly funny video about Microsoft designs the iPod packaging. I am sure Bill is very happy that the iPod I gave him for his birthday is not in the re-deisgned packaging. Happy Birthday to Bill!

Update: Thanks to Ian for sharing his tips in solving the spam attack. I’ve now installed the plugin Bad Behavior 2 and things are back to normal now, at least so far. Flow your comments in!

Self-fulfillment

Today I came across this meaningful quote and feel like sharing with all of you:

When we’re incomplete, we’re always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we’re still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on–series polygamy–until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter.

Relaxing Sunday in Stanley

Spanish cuisine
Spanish tapas at El Cid, Murray House, Stanley

It is such a beautiful day! The sky is blue and clear, sunny but not too hot with spring breeze throughout the afternoon and evening. I drove to Stanley for lunch and a stroll in the market and my mother school, and took the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui at night for an evening walk. Gorgeous night view in the Victoria Harbour, thanks to the Labour Day holidays for the pollution break!

Accounting Software for OS X

Liquid LedgerFor as much as I love Mac, I have to admit that there are some sacrifices for my switch since 2002. Gaming is definitely one issue, but that doesn’t bother me as I am not that interested in playing computer games. For me, someone running a small business on Mac, not having a good accounting software is a pain in the ass. I have been trying numerous accounting software for years, and none of them does the job. I’ve tried big names like QuickBooks, MYOB and Quicken, smaller names like iBank, CashBox, Accounts … basically most viable options available in the VersionTracker directory.

What’s a “good accounting software” for me? My requirements: Easy to use with an intuitive OS X interface (cannot accept anything with an ugly interface); Not buggy (ask Mac Quicken users why this is important) in the core functions. I don’t need many features, but these key ones must exist:

- Support foreign currency
- Support credit card activities
- Support for basic export/printing so that I could hand over the data to my accountant who doesn’t use Mac

Unfortunately the search is not yet over. Whenever I got a little time, I would try a few new ones, lately the list includes: LiquidLedger and MoneyDance. Both look promising and affordable. Let me know if you got any suggestion!
