Clip it! - Bill’s first Mac app goes live!

Wow!!! My buddy Bill just released his first Mac app!

Introducing Clip it!, a free Mac OS X app that allows any one to capture any web page into a single image, regardless of the size of your screen or browser window. It’s very handy for web designers like me who from time to time needs to present the whole site’s design in a proposal or presentation.

Bill, well done! Keep it up and all of us are supporting you to follow your dream!

Best ways to reduce stress

What are the best ways to reduce stress? I saw this in the street today. It looks like these ads are every where, but I only notice them when I feel the stress!

Web 2.0 Workshop in Hong Kong

Mingles, me & GregVery rarely I would skip my regular tennis session on Saturday, and today is such a special day.

There is a Web 2.0 workshop organized by Dr. Andy Chun at the City University of Hong Kong, featuring speakers from Hong Kong Web 2.0 startups like EditGrid, aNobii, Bullpoo and Wazhua. So how could I miss it?

It was great seeing David, Simon and Mingles again and get the chance to meet some new friends. The attendance and atmosphere were not bad at all, and I found that I shared a lot in common with the speakers’ views on starting/running a business. Actually a few days ago I gave a short talk on entrepreneurship for AIESEC at the University of Hong Kong. The main theme of my talk was “Passion”, and the same word was mentioned many times today again. This is hardly a coincidence and I’ll be talking about this more very soon.

New mobile phone - Sony Ericsson W850i

Prompted by the latest offers by Three HK X-Series, I finally gave up my blackberry phone and got a “MSN messenger capable” phone - Sony Ericsson W850i.

Here’s an interesting photo I took yesterday with my new phone:

Stencil Revolution

My new SIM card is going to be active starting this Friday morning, so expect to see me ALWAYS on MSN from then on! :-) Come on, it’s just HK$28 per month with unlimited use! I’ve also signed up with the unlimited web browsing plan for another HK$28 per month. Beore I made the purchase, I tried on a demo phone and could connect successfully to gmail mobile version using the 3Xeplorer browser (a Java app) on this phone, so I guess I’d better save the HK$200 for the Blackberry plan and just forward all my company emails to gmail for checking from now on. For urgent matters, people can now find me on MSN for instant response. How cool!

Top Ten Movies for 2006

My friend Marshy has earlier started a poll for the Top Ten (best & worst) Movies for 2006 in his Marshy’s Mammoth Movie Poll and the results are out now:

That is it, the polls are closed, the tea ladies sent home and all your fascinating views and opinions and have been read, revered and ridiculed by yours truly, not to mention pain-stakingly counted and compiled into the definitive Top Ten list of movies for 2006. There are a few interesting things to consider – firstly, every film on the list is American. Not a single movie, dubbed or subbed, made its way into your collective hearts. Does this reflect on the current state of Cinema in Asia? Or does it reflect on your personal viewing tastes? Or does it simply say something about Governor Schwarzenegger’s constituents? That Hollywood may have started making decent movies again, after so many years languishing in the wilderness of mediocrity? Or am I just waffling on to get myself warmed up, and to give you a moment to grab a coffee and a bagel before I get started? Who can truly say? I just thought it was interesting.

You Know You’re Living In 2007 When …

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven’t played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don’t have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7 Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t a #9 on this list

AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at yourself.

Thanks to K.S. for sharing this great list.

My Dream Phone is here!

What a long wait … but finally it’s here. Up for grab? Not really, at least not until June (USA) or 2008 (Asia). Everything is right, including the pricing, just not the shipping dates. Hurry up Apple Inc.!

Marshy’s Mammoth Movie Poll 2006

My friend Marshy invites you to vote for your favourite (and least favourite) films of the last 12 months. Pick and email your choices to me by January 7th - belleliu AT gmail dot com. Why bother? “Do it for me! I’m sad and lonely and it makes me happy! It gives me something to do at night that doesn’t make my palms all hairy!”, he said. :-)

At this time of year, I invite all of you, yes you, Hong Kong dwellers (un)fortunate enough to have at one stage or another given me your email address, to have your voice heard, have your opinion counted, have your mark be seen, read, and added to a larger total. Most likely, from time to time over the last 12 months you will have had emails from me bombarding you with mostly yawn-inducing facts, figures, opinions and reviews relating to movies, dvds and all thing cinematic. Emails, in fact, rather like this one …

What’s going to happen in 2007?

What are your New Year’s resolutions? Here are mine:

* Keep learning. One book per week, at least.
* Keep exercising. Lose my belly, get flat tummy.
* Keep my life simple. Inspired by The Laws of Simplicity.

I love excitements, and life is always full of excitements, so I love life. Don’t tell me what’s going to happen, what I should or shouldn’t do and what I think others should do. How you live your life is your business, don’t let others define your success and live for others’ expectations, it’s just not worth it.

Quote of the day: 世上只有兩種人, 成功的和失敗的, 成功的人會不斷嘗試, 失敗的人則連嘗試也不敢 from movie Little Miss Sunshine
