The most frustrating online registration experience
After moving into my new home for more than a month, I finally got the time to deal with my new purchases: filing the receipts and records, sending warranty cards, etc. Guess what, I spent nearly 45 minutes just TRYING to register for warranty for my new Samsung LCD monitor!

瘋狂的一週
過去的一個星期真係忙到癲！日日都要開會，最勁一日四個，個個都要準備同跟進，加埋電話、email、IM、自己公司開會，夜晚都做埋野都係做極都唔完！連續兩日瞓得三個鐘之後，我身體終於發警號：狂出暗瘡、喉嚨痛、失憶、腳痛 … 好彩大部分的工作死線都總算趕得上，呢個weekend應該可以抖一抖，即係野照做，但不用開夜。
經濟氣氛大好(甚至有點過熱)，間間公司都忙，我都唔例外。但係錢又點會賺得完？咁既環境，最難就係say no，資源同時間都有限，要決定做乜唔做乜絕對係大挑戰。好多時我只有好少時間去決定，錯係難免的，但我覺得有得面對呢種挑戰係非常幸福！正如人地話既 happy problem。其實我每日都想：好生意的日子還有多久呢？基本上由2003年開始自僱後我每日都想這個問題，可能正是這種「危機感」可以令我更珍惜現在，更享受工作上的點滴。

回歸十年
眨下眼就十年！時間過得超快，我唔認老都唔得，幾個月前發現自己開始有白頭髮！天啊 ….
十年前呢個時候我做緊乜呢，我應該係灣仔返緊暑期工，等緊A-Level放榜。份工係舊生會的老校友介紹的，係一間叫O & T做玻璃工程的小公司裡做filing clerk，月薪五千，返五日半, 還記得老細話會展新翼Ｄ玻璃我地都有份做架,幾威呀！我永遠都會記得四月廿一日呢個日子，就係我考最後一科那日，我第二日就開始返工，想掙多Ｄ錢，第一個月一出糧就去298買了我第一部scanner, 夜晚就狂scan相，自己學HTML整網頁。Filing clerk 的工作都幾無聊，我懷疑佢地都無乜所謂我file得啱唔啱，成班同事都忙到死，我諗當年佢地要趕起會展新翼個project俾中英雙方搞香港主權移交儀式都幾大壓力，佢地好驚唔知邊個領導人行過會俾玻璃跌落黎整親,好彩無事！;-)
那時Windows 95都出左一排，我係公司仲要用Windows 3.1, 又無得上網，好灰，好彩我鍾意打倉頡，Ｄ同事有野就搵我打下。1997年真係買左好多revoluntary的東西，例如第一部數碼手提電話 (motorola CDMA)、數碼相機(1.5 mega pixels)、56K modem … 又經常upgrade部電腦, 成日都好鬼興奮。回歸那日，我同大部份人一樣，望住個電視，感覺？都幾感動架,不過都唔係好關心（或擔心），因為我正經歷人生的一個重要階段 ﹣﹣ 入大學。7月4日放榜，我梗係緊張啦，不過真係估唔到咁 dramatic, 真係好難忘的一天，呢世都會記得。當時要決定既係： JUPAS轉唔轉科好呢？我都幾鍾意Architecture, 不過一想起要讀五年就怕怕，所以最後都無轉first choice — Law (3+1年)。又估唔到喎，最後係HKU竟花了六年光陰！真係 … 而最後我無做律師，亦無做建築師，走左去寫網頁！
三年讀LLB, 兩年打大學工，一年PCLL, 咁就六年，離開HKU那年正是2003年，SARS時戴住個口罩考試，成個香港都好down, 但亦可以話係最好的創業時候。自己間蚊型公司一做就四年，睇住香港經濟一日比一日好，可能真係「快樂不知時日過」？ 十年前打暑期工，今日就請人做暑期工；十年前刨書考試上莊，今日就跑數見客出糧；十年前用PC用modem用15″ CRT; 今日就用Mac用wireless broadband用20″ dual LCD。好多人話：「以前 XXX 幾好呀！」，我就會話：「咪搞，千祈咪叫我返轉頭！」人，總是要向前看，尤其係做 I.T. 呢行，唔學唔用新野好快就會俾市場淘汰。十年前你識HTML好勁，今時今日？連小學生都識寫blog用flash 玩youtube, 想食老本？好難。係I.T. 呢行, 「經驗」可能係一種負累，有時遇到Ｄ中年I.T. 人成日講「以前 XXX 以前 YYY」, 我就會好驚同疑感。驚：自己十年後會唔會變成咁？疑感：點解呢Ｄ人無新野講？係，我認我係未用過（或見過）用punch… »
香港 Web 2.0 聚會
上年十月我有幸認識到幾個香港 Web 2.0的中堅分子，想唔到短短大半年間香港的 Web 2.0 發展迅速，計計埋埋已有一打, 今晚更會聚首一堂 chit chat 一番, 多得Uta發起和籌備。
雖然我自己做website 搵食，但係一直都無搞任何 Web 2.0，原因好簡單：就係做公司的projects都忙死。做一個 product 同做 project 好唔同，唔係話跟 spec 做完就得，就算係熟手技工，好快做到出來又如何，而家講全球競爭，一定要日以繼夜咁不停改進，又要兼顧marketing同support, 少D心力同財力都無可能。所以見到這呢班咁有 heart 的年青人對Web的熱誠和成績，真係打從心底裡佩服（又羨慕）！
今日下午滂沱大雨，我係中環塞緊車時，竟然聽到收音機裡講起 EditGrid, aNobii 同Recruit.net！ 我拿拿臨「豎起」耳仔聽，原來係香港電台第二台的《 e 個 世 界 》講Webby Awards。連香港的大眾傳播媒體都提，我諗真係要多謝巴士阿叔同YouTube。
好多人都睇小香港的I.T., 我同意香港未必係做科研的理想地方，但我反而睇好做 Web 這方面的發展。原因有幾個：
做 Web 的成本同技術門檻都不高，容易開始，正一「小本經營」
香港人夠快、夠靈活又心急，做 Web 都幾適合
而家做 Web 要「面向世界」，香港人慣晒兩文三語，搞多語言(multi-lingual)有優勢
經過二千年的科網泡沬，大家都踏實了許多，去蕪存菁，有利長遠的健康發展
當然，我意思唔係話搞 Web 就會賺大錢（係我就發左啦！），「睇好」意思係如果意念好又實行到的話，應該係一門做得過的生意／工作。其實個市場越成熟，就越難賺大錢 (windfall),… »
