Tennis

At the age of 13, I went to St. Stephen’s College in Stanley. They required every kid to play at least one sport, some popular choices included athletics, swimming and x-country. I found myself only interested in ball games but I was too SHORT for basketball or volleyball. So I guess tennis maybe good for me. It looked like easy to hit the balls and it sounded lovely, yeah, the tennis wear looked much better than those of athletics too!
That’s how I started. I began attending tennis courses organized by the school in Form 1. It was just a 2-hour class per week, but it meant so much to me. Then I played more and more and began to represent my school in Division II Inter-school competitions in Form 2. Since then, I never stopped playing for 12 years. My peak period was in Form 3-4, practising 5 times a week during school term and 6 hours a day during the summer break.
I like tennis so much that I feel “sick” if I can’t play for a month or so. To a certain degree, I think playing tennis (or whatever sport) does help other things, e.g. studies, because it helps relax my mind and strengthen my body. You’ll know the difference when you take harsh exams. By going to competitions, it also trains my mind and teaches me many things that I could not have learnt from books.
My favourite players are: Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi and Michael Chang. Visit:
